Who are the CRB?

The CRB - Criminal Records Bureau - is an executive agency of the Home Office that helps organisations make safer recruitment decisions. By providing wider access to criminal record information, the CRB helps employers in the public, private and voluntary sectors identify candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially that involving contact with children or other vulnerable members of society.

The CRB uses the Police National Computer record which serves England and Wales and also holds most relevant convictions in Scotland. The information provided in the Disclosure (certificate) is derived from police records, supplemented by records of those who are unsuitable to work with children held by the Department of Education and Skills and the Department of Health where indicated.

What do Hattie’s Nannies require?

All Hattie’s Nannies candidates require a Police check. This is not an optional requirement and applies to both UK and overseas candidates.

If you are living in the UK you will require an Enhanced CRB certificate in order to be placed by Hattie’s Nannies.

If you are new to the UK, you will need to obtain an equivalent Police check from your previous country of residence.

How do I obtain an Enhanced CRB certificate?

If you are a UK resident you will need an Enhanced CRB certificate. You cannot apply for this directly, it must be through a body who is registered with the CRB. Hattie’s Nannies are happy to organise this for you if you are registered with us. The process takes approximately 2-3 weeks.

How much does an Enhanced CRB certificate cost?

We can arrange this for you at a cost of £60. This is a non-profit making service provided by Hattie’s Nannies.

We would recommend that you keep the certificate on file yourself, rather than store it at a third party agency. When a registered body applies for the certificate on your behalf, the certificate should be sent to you on completion.

If you are planning to register on the Ofsted Childcare Register

If you are planning to register with Ofsted on their Childcare Register, they will complete an enhanced CRB disclosure ( formally known as a police check), as part of the registration fee of £100. See “Ofsted Registration section “
